Ask A Pro Questions About Baby Girls Names

Ruth asks…

Can’t decide on some of the Baby girls names we really like, what do you prefer,if any?

The names we like for a baby girl so far are:

Ruby
Holly
Lily
Lola ( hubby not so keen already on this, but I think it’s cute)

What do you think of any of the above, of please feel free to share you favourite girls names, would love to hear! Thanks :)
Thanks for your speedy replies already :) Some other lovely names there too!
and yes Liv, my hubby is a Kinks fan and hates Lola for the same reason, haha!

I love all those names!!!!!
I absolutely love the name Lily (it’s my favorite), however, it is very popular and your daughter will probably end up in a class with at least one other Lily. (I wish it wasn’t so popular!)
So…out of those names I would go with Holly or Ruby. I think the name Holly is such a happy, feminine name that she can grow up with. I know 2 girls names Holly and they are both such lovely people!!! :)

Robert asks…

Do you find that most of the “creative” or “unique” names have been given to baby boys or baby girls?

I’m just curious to see if there is a trend where parents are more likely to want their sons (or daughters) to have less common names than their daughters (or sons).

Off the top of my head, I can think of more “odd” baby girlsnames than baby boys’. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that there are more baby girls running around with “odd” names than baby boys.

What has been your observation?

motonet answers:

I think the odd names are normally given to boys whereas the odd spellings are usually given to girls.

For example, odd boys names like:

Braiden, Caden, Thaden, Zayden, Zaine, Jaylyn, Cayson, Kyler, etc.

Girls names that are trendy are commonly BOYS names used for a girl, and spelled in a different (normally ridiculous) way to make it appear “feminine:

Ex: Jordyn, Jadyn, Mykynzy, Madisyn, Addisyn, Rylee, etc.

Or just a name spelled weird in general, a great example is Michaela, a lovely traditional name constantly spelled Makayla, Mikayla, Mikaila, etc.
