Ask A Pro Questions About Professional Photographer

Jenny asks…

How do I find a professional photographer that will photograph me completely nude? (serious answers please)?

I’m looking to get nude photographs done of myself as a kind of erotic gift for my special someone. I need to find a good photographer that will do this and don’t know where to begin. I don’t want someone that runs some sleazy business out of their apartment–just a real photographer that will act professional and be ok with taking some very provocative photos. I’m talking Playboy style by the way–not Penthouse! Any thoughts or ideas?

motonet answers:

Lol…this is a very different question. You may get a lot of offers from the camera bugs in here….I’ll watch this one………………..

Charles asks…

Is it necessary to get a degree to be a professional photographer?

I have decided that I want to open a portrait studio in the future and I am wondering if a degree is really necessary to make it in the field. I want to take the photography classes for the knowledge, but I don’t really want to take all of the other things. I am going to at least an associates in business so I know how to run my own business, but ultimately I want to be a professional photographer.

motonet answers:

Absolutely NOT necessary.

Sharon asks…

how long does it take to become a professional photographer?

I want to know how many years, months, hours of photography school do i have to take so i could become a professional photographer. and what classes would i have to take in that school and what are those classes about.

motonet answers:

It all depends on how much time you put into it I am currently in Art Institute of Pittsburgh Online for my Bachelor degree when I started 1 1/2 ago I sucked but after 4 actual photography classes I am way better. With that being said, you have to know how to work your camera and it’s settings, you can’t just go out an buy an expensive camera with a cheap lens and expect to be a photographer in a day. It takes time and practice and if you have the will you can do it. My advice is to look at different schools and talk to the counselors and see what the best option is for you. Once you have the camera that you are comfortable with start reading the manual and keep it handy always shot in Manual mode which means you make all the decisions, and also shoot in RAW better to edit, and shows what you actually see. A great site to go check out it is www.Froknowsphoto.com watch some of his videos on there and on youtube. I hope this helps.

Nancy asks…

Can I still refer to myself as a professional photographer?

I was a military photographer in the Army for 2 years, however due to an injury, was recently medically discharged. I plan to continue pursuing photography as a career now that I am back home and wanted to get your guys opinion on whether or not I can refer to myself as a professional photgrapher as it was my job (and I received a salary)? Thanks!

motonet answers:

Of course. You have the skills. That is what really is the difference between a pro and an amateur. Yes, there are some advanced amateurs out there, but usually they haven’t had the professional experience of shooting on assignment.

Until you get back to shooting, consider yourself a temporarily, non-working pro.

Sharon asks…

what is a product key of Microsoft Office Professional 2007?

what does product key mean? it ask me to “type 25-character Product Key” when i install the Microsoft Powerpoint

motonet answers:

If you have a legitimate copy of the software there will be a long number printed, probably on the box but somewhere obvious and that is the product key. Often it is hyphenated so look for one that fits in the boxes on your screen

James asks…

How can I have free product key for full version for Microsoft Office Professional 2007?

motonet answers:

You can’t!

Ask A Pro Questions About Professional Photographer

Thomas asks…

Does any one know a professional nude photographer in Philadelphia?

I was looking for a professional photographer that takes tasteful nude pictures.

motonet answers:

Look on Model Mayhem or One Model Place for photographers in your area that shoot glamour and nudes.

Charles asks…

How much would a Photo-Session cost at a professional photographer in London/Reading?

How much would a portrait, inside the studio,
Photo-Session (for around 10 photos)
cost at a professional photographer in London or in Reading?

motonet answers:

Firstly Olan Mills UK ceased trading in December 2006. So don’t bother looking for them.

Try http://www.thempa.co.uk/

You can look up various photographers on there and give em a call. Prices will vary a lot,

“Venture” will be expensive but there are many competent photographers out there doing the same sort of thing for less money.

Rule of thumb guide will be to expect to pay around £100~£300 depending on size/finish for a set of photos.

Lisa asks…

What is your definition of a professional photographer?

I was wondering what your actual definition of a professional photographer is?

motonet answers:

It is nothing to do with skills, amount of equipment or education.

A professional photographer is purely and simply defined as to whether or not they make the majority of their income through photography.

End of.

I know amateurs who have more and better equipment than pro’s.
Who have better overall skills and who have formal photographic education.
They however do not make their money or the majority of their income from photography therefore they are not professional photographers.

It is, sadly, purely and simply down to income.

Joseph asks…

what are some goals you can achieve to become a professional photographer?

im trying to write an essay but my brain has just stopped working. lol. my main idea is “An important goal I would like to achieve in the next few years is to become a professional photographer.” what are some goals that i need to achieve to make this happen?

motonet answers:

A. Know not only the photographic and post processing tools like Photoshop, but having a knowledge of business and marketing.

B. Never settle with the current skill level you’re at. Always try new things, always stretch the creative edge.

C. Know your camera inside and out, and know what lighting/setup you’ll need for all kinds of situations.

D. Get insurance.

E. Shell out for professional branding and a website.

That’s a short list I just came up with. Hopefully it can act as a springboard for you.

Ask A Pro Questions About Microsoft Office Professional 2007

Donna asks…

Does microsoft professional 2007 and its various applications have tutorials?

In addition, is there a good book or good software I can depend on to learn more about the microsoft office professional 2007 and it various programs. Thanks for your input.

motonet answers:

There are tutorials for all Office applications on the microsoft website

Ruth asks…

how do I make microsoft Office professional 2007 work with a Mac?

motonet answers:

You have to wait for Microsoft Office Profession 2008: Mac for it to work natively. You can however, if it is an Intel Mac, run windows on it, either in parallels or bootcamp, and run it there. Parallels will allow you to run it simultaneously with Mac OS X, while bootcamp requires you to only be in one OS at a time. Bootcamp can be downloaded via apple’s website and parallels can be purchased via almost any Mac store.

Steven asks…

Can I install Microsoft office professional 2007 on both my desktop and laptop?

motonet answers:

Yes if you have the nec. Requirements on both device

David asks…

Are microsoft office professional 2007 documents compatible with an old microsoft word?

motonet answers:

There are two solutions for this problem:

1.In Word 2007, do a Save As and select an earlier version of Word as the file type.

OR

2.On the machine with the earlier version of Word, download and install Microsoft’s free Compatibility Pack.

Note that this still won’t give the older version of Word the newer features of Word 2007, and there’s a good chance any such features will be lost on files processed by the older version.

Also note that Word 2007 may need to have a file converter installed off the installation disk to handle the older version’s file format

Hope that helps.

Ask A Pro Questions About Professional Photographer

Joseph asks…

I am having a Professional photographer come out and take pictures.. Any recommendations on poses etc?

I am having a Professional photographer come out and take pictures of me and my horse together..I have no clue what to wear. But all i do know is ive always wanted my photo take by a willow tree, because ithink they are so beautiful, so that’s going to be a few, and then Some around the arena etc? anything Special you think i should do? thanks

motonet answers:

It looks like you already have a few good ideas of your own! Here are some tricks I’ve learned to make horses more photogenic when they have less-than-perfect conformation:

1) If he’s built downhill, have him stand SLIGHTLY (not obviously) uphill, and turn the hindquarters just the slightest bit towards the photographer.

2) If he’s thick through the throat latch, have him extend his neck forward and low (not TOO low, but just above the withers.)

3) Have someone stand in front of and just outside the camera’s range and wave a few fronds of hay at your horse to attract his attention. That will make him prick his ears forward.

4) Avoid allowing your horse to turn his head and look at the photographer; it will make his neck look short.

Have fun! I hope the photos turn out beautifully!

Steven asks…

What counts as a professional photographer? Can I just take a class?

I mean I just bought a very expensive camera and I figured im pretty good with it, why not put an add in the paper about a “professional photographer“. So can I get away with that? Should I take a class at the community center? or what?

motonet answers:

You are a professional photographer if you make the majority of your income from that trade.

End off.

Charles asks…

What do I need to become a professional photographer?

What is needed to become a professional photographer? I dont mean in terms of talent, I mean like what cameras are best, or programs (I currently have Adobe), or just materials that would make your work look professional., like those things they use for lighting . Are regular digital cameras good for this? plz help, Im determined to start taking professional photos.

motonet answers:

New York Institute of Photography has a correspondence course where instructors give assignments and evaluate work you send in.
I have not tried them myself.

Mentoring under a professional is the best way. They have advise and tips that few or no books cover. Also, pick a certain field of photography you want to focus on. Wildlife, landscape, wedding, macro, all require different attitudes, skill sets, and equipment. Don’t put too much money into your setup at first, figure out what you want to do. You may find you just want to keep it a hobby, or eventually go pro.

Jenny asks…

What do you concider a professional photographer?

What credentials do you believe makes a photogrpaher a professional?

What seperates us from the 21yr old who had one photography class in college and now tells everyone he does it on a professional level?

Is it membership to a national organization? Years of experience? Or is it the fact that they just charge for their work? Tell me here. Or even vent if you would like.

Ask A Pro Questions About Professional Photographer

Richard asks…

What its like working as a photographer? For my assignment I have to interview a professional photographer?

Im a photo-journalism student and im looking for a professional photographer to answer a few questions for me.I would really appreciate your help.
my Questions..

> How did you decide you wanted to be a photographer?
> Where did you study to get your qualifications?
> How long have you been a photographer?
> What do you enjoy the most about your career?
> What advice would you give a photography student?

motonet answers:

1) Don’t hyphenate photojournalism if you are going to be a photojournalist.
2) I always had an interest in art and technology, photography was the perfect marriage of the two for me.
3) I learned photography growing up with cameras. I studied art, commercial art and business in college. When I decided photography was my medium I studied photographers.
4) 33 years
5) The challenge. That is why I prefer photojournalism.
6) When/if you find an instructor that has actual life experience in photography study them and question them. You need to know what’s in the books, that’s easy to get, but the hard part is the experience.

Maria asks…

Cost for a professional photographer to take photos of my staged house?

Hello,

I am wondering what the cost would likely be to hire a professional photographer to take photos of my staged house so I can put them all online.

I am in the San Francisco area.

Thanks!

motonet answers:

It depends on the size of the house and what you’re looking to capture (sort of like picking a wedding photographer). My guess is anywhere from $3,000-$10,000.

Real architecture photography would require a more specialized camera (medium/ large format) that can compensate for the distortions made by the lens (via swing/ tilt/ risers controls). Those cameras usually cost $20,000-$60,000, not including lens and extra adaptors. And the photogs will camp out for day(s) just to capture the right natural lighting. That’s why architecture photography can be expensive.

I don’t know of any photogs in SF area, but try to find something comparable to these guys:
http://www.atticfirearchitecture.com/

Mary asks…

Do you have to be a professional photographer?

do you have to be a professional photographer to do and sell pictures?
what if it was bands at a 02 academy?

motonet answers:

Of course you don’t. Anybody can sell a photo they took, it just needs to be good enough for somebody to want to buy it.

.

Paul asks…

How can I become a Professional photographer?

I love photography. I take exactly 100 photos in a day. And I want to be a professional. Can you tell me how to become a professional photographer. And How much money would I make a month?. Thank You. x Please Answer.x
My Photos Are Brilliant. Thank You. And Please Tell Me How To Become A Professional Photographer.

motonet answers:

Haha – sorry, but I just love these questions.

What has the fact that you take “exactly” 100 photos a day got to do with anything?
They may be 100 really bad shots or 100 fantastic shots.

To be a professional photographer all you actually have to do is make the majority of your income from photography. Simple easy.

The hard part.
What pictures are you going to take to make this money?
There are loads of different areas of photography from straight forward portraits and weddings through to forensic and scientific.

In between there are events photographers, sports, fashion, commercial, architectural, travel, art etc etc ad infinitum.

For some it is advantageous to get formal training in the field (scientific for instance) for others it is not necessary to have any formal training.

Whatever field you think you can do the most important thing is that you can take good shots each and every time you have to no matter what the conditions or circumstances.

To do this you need to know your equipment inside out, you need to know all about light, colour, composition etc.
The only way to get to that level is to get experience and to get the opinions of your peers and potential customers.

How much money can you make ?? Anything from nothing to thousands.
The vast majority of “jobbing” snappers probably make about the same as a secretary or admin clerk (i.e. Not much)
The best (or at least the so-called best or most famous) can make millions.

Currently photography is one of the trades/industries which is suffering from bankruptcies and businesses collapsing.
This is because photography for most is a luxury.
Individuals will not pay a photographer when “uncle Joe” has a camera and can take a “good” picture.
Companies will not want to pay top dollar for their advertising because they need to justify the extra cost.
Travel companies cannot justify new shots of the resorts when it is the same as last year.

Still want to be a photographer – then figure out exactly what you want to do, then research your markets and go for it.

Ask A Pro Questions About Microsoft Office Professional 2007

Laura asks…

need help with microsoft office professional 2007?

I am about to start a new receptionist job and I need to know which one I should learn. Should I learn Microsoft office 2003 or 2007? And which is the easiest way to learn everything you need to know about microsoft office? Maybe Microsoft office for dummies? Please help and please don’t laugh at me! :)

motonet answers:

Microsoft office 2007 is a repeated of 2003, but changes in the icons and extensions.

Charles asks…

What’s the difference between Microsoft Office 2007 and 2008?

I need to get Microsoft Office Professional 2007 for a class, but I have a Mac. and I think the only version they have is the 2008 one.

Are there any major differences between the two?

Thanks!

motonet answers:

Don’t quote me on this, but I am pretty sure it is the same software. 2007 it the PC version, and 2008 is the Mac version. The reason for this is that the 2007 version came out for PC first (I believe it actually came out in 2006, but just like cars, they name it ahead to seem “newer and better.”) A year later they decided to add Mac support, so to keep with the newest and best trend, they named it 2008. As far as I can remember it is the exact same thing, it just came out later for Mac, so it is named a year ahead.

Maria asks…

I have Microsoft Office Professional 2007 that I purchased from the collage I attend.?

I installed it on a computer that I don’t use anymore, but now I need to put it on another computer that I use. It is a student/faculty copy that I only have the license to put it on one computer. Can I install it on my other computer as long as I take it off my first computer?

motonet answers:

Yes you can. As long as you take it off the first computer after you transfer it to the other you should be good.

Paul asks…

How can I unstall the trail version of Microsoft Office Professional 2007 and all it’s components?

This free trial was downloaded directly off the Microsoft free trail download page.

motonet answers:

Goto Start Menu –> Control panel –> Add & Remove programs –> select on trial of Office 2007 and give Remove

Cheap place to buy Microsoft Office Professional 2007 Retail Box?

Where can I find a great deal online for Microsoft Office Professional 2007 Retail Box

motonet answers:

Try bonanzle. Http://www.bonanzle.com/booths/outletzone/items/Microsoft_Office_2007_Pro_Professional_Retail_Box_NEW_Englis
They sell it for about $60, which is the cheapest price I could find for the program. The second cheapest was $80 at Sams Club. There should be no reason for you to buy it for $100+. Some places even charge up to $300-400. Avoid that. You can find a cheaper place

Will Microsoft Office Professional 2007 FULL VERSION for XP work with Windows 7? Thanks.?

Ask A Pro Questions About Professional Photographer

Nancy asks…

What do I need to know about becoming a professional photographer?

I’m considering changing my major to photography.
I want to know everything there is to know about the business aspects of becoming a professional photographer. Should I go to school for business as well?
How does it work with taxes and insurance and all that kind of stuff?
Any kind of information you can give me would be great.
Pros and cons, etc.
Thanks!

motonet answers:

It’s hard work and you need to learn business so you will know about taxes and insurance and stuff. The good part is, if you are the best artist with excellent business sense you will be rich. The bad part is, few people have the business sense, artistic and technical ability required to get rich.

Lisa asks…

Which course is better if I want to become a professional photographer – commercial arts or visual arts?

I’m a 4th year high school student, and I want to become a professional photographer. But i really don’t know which course is better to pursue this – visual arts or advertising/commercial arts?

motonet answers:

I would suggest that you major in business management with a minor in photography. A degree in management will get you a job until you can figure out where your passion in photography lies.

Richard asks…

What sd card would a professional photographer use?

i have a canon eos 500d camera. what would be the best choice of sd card, that a professional photographer would choose.

motonet answers:

Professionals shooting with Canon gear used CF cards as that’s what pro level gear uses (5DMkII and up … Not sure about the 7D) not SD … Excpet maybe on their backups (I used a 5DMKII as my main, a T1i as a backup and a XSi as a “AW CRAP!” backup.).

That being said, use small, fast cards. I shoot on 2 and 4 gig SD cards on my backups and I have a couple of 8 gigs for video or if I go crazy in fill all my CF cards and my smaller SD cards. You don;t want to shoot an entire shoot on one card … If that one card fails you could be in serious trouble … Shooting on multiple reduces the risk of losing everything.

Charles asks…

What made you become a professional photographer and how?

I’m looking into becoming a professional photographer, but I’m just wanting to know how some of you made it to where you are today! How you started out and where you are now! If you absolutely love your job! Things like that (:
